Snapshots of Infinity

Exhibition

Our linear understanding of time and space, of the beginning and end of all life, permeates the world, the use of its resources, and our daily lives. Our pursuit of order and control has subjected all living and non-living things to the seemingly logical principle of infinite growth. Where does sustainability find its place within this mindset?

The exhibition Snapshots of Infinity is a creative study that aims to redefine the concept of sustainability. As part of the Environmental Curator Fellowship at Künstlerhaus Lukas, guest curators Gözde Filinta and Bettina Rohr explore the linear perception of time and space—of the beginning and end of all life—which influences the world and the way we utilize its resources.

The exhibited works encourage reflection on the consequences of our present actions, addressing themes of symbiosis, migration, landscapes, natural sciences, concepts of nature, and humanity’s place within them.

Magdalena Abele (*1986) studied Media Art and Photography at the State Academy of Design in Karlsruhe. A widely awarded artist, she explores both the poetic-personal and the analytical-universal potential of visual expression.

Benjamin Dittrich (*1987) studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig. A master student of Prof. Annette Schröter, his paintings feature a mysteriously structured abstract visual language.

Tuomas A. Laitinen (*1976) graduated from the Finnish Academy of Fine Arts in 2008. Based in Helsinki, he works across moving images, 3D animation, light, sound, and installations, merging these disciplines.

Cora Marin (*1991) studied Art and Philosophy in Barcelona, Athens, and Berlin. Her work focuses on graphic-plastic and literary research exploring the application of the arts in social and political contexts.

Pınar Öğrenci (*1973) has a background in architecture, which informs her poetic, experiential video-based works and installations. The Berlin-based artist has exhibited in numerous art institutions, including documenta fifteen in Kassel (2022).

Broder Burow (*1949) is a sculptor based in Kaarz. His work consists of sculptural, often planar objects that explore the specific surface and structural potential of wood.
