Nils Dicaz – SESSION
Ausstellung
For his exhibition, Nils Dicaz invited guests – fellow artists – to whom he provided a silkscreen print and asked them to rework it. Much like a musical session – something that has always impressed Dicaz in jazz music – a second voice emerged through improvisation, with different artistic styles coming together to form a new visual concept.
Guest artists: Urs Bumke, Sylvia Dallmann, Ute Gallmeister, Anne Hille, Claudia Kapellusch, Vera Ohlsson, Cindy Schmiedichen, Janet Zeugner
Opening on Saturday, 7 November 2026, 5 pm
‘Half-asleep – a strange word – Till hovers beside the silent shadows, climbs the thirteen steps, crawls, pale, beneath the blue ceiling, and thinks of all those who vanish, who turn to ash. It is not clear whether he is afraid or merely confused, unsettled and astonished, drifting off to sleep whilst half-awake. What is that rustling sound, what are those strange murmurs, wind in the dark window? Shall we go back into the soft yellow light? The summer, the short one, is over; who has won and who must take a hit? Joker! Pale pink blossoms in the sand, the game, innate; against one another. The magnolia—it blooms regardless.”
Text: Nils Dicaz from the artist’s book ‘Magnolia’, 2026
‘The most delicate scribbles, breathtakingly beautiful lines, black refusals – Dicaz’s artistic oeuvre is exceptionally cohesive in terms of its consistently figurative imagery and formal style. Animal-like human beings, humanised animal creatures, childlike figures, embryonic dream-births, genderless heroes stagger through the world, embrace one another, are left to fend for themselves and abandoned by themselves. Their anatomy cannot be verified in any textbook, but there is no question that they exist in the world in this way and no other.”
